About us

Philip Lucas was educated at Shiplake College near Henley on Thames. He still holds close links with the school having educated all three of his children there and being an active member of the old boy network. He joined Legal and General as a trainee Financial Consultant in 1986 and after completing his qualifications there he had a successful time gaining valuable experience in the sector along with many of the clients he still deals with to this day. In 1992 he set up PLFM as an Independent IFA and originally joined Ken Davy at the DBS network. During the following years he established a diverse client bank with clients from all backgrounds and pursuing many different career paths. PLFM became directly authorised in 2014. Philip links his achievements to the success of his clients and his position now clearly demonstrates that always acting in the clients best interest and patiently reviewing the clients year after year most definitely pays dividends in the long run. Philip has established a great reputation in the local area but has clients throughout the UK.

Outside of work Philip enjoys spending time with his family and three dogs, but also has a passion for travel and food! He is a keen sports fan and enjoys watching rugby at Twickenham or as a Liverpool fan a trip to Anfield with his son.

Amanda joined PLFM in 2004 as a Paraplanner but soon became interested in the Mortgage and Protection markets. During the following years she decided to complete the professional exams which would allow her to advise clients and introduce her contacts to the business. Amanda now splits her time between overseeing the administration at PLFM and leading the Mortgage business which is a major contributor to the company’s success.

She has an eye for detail, considerable market knowledge along with great communication skills. This is clearly demonstrated by the fantastic customer reviews she regularly receives. Outside work Amanda lives in Abingdon with her family. She is a very keen sportswoman having completed Marathons and Triathlons! She is an active member of a local Triathlon club and also enjoys travelling in her spare time.

Barwell grew up on a farm near Huntingdon. He started his education at Woodcote prep school in Windlesham, followed by Oakham where he completed his A levels. This was followed by 3 years in Brighton where he achieved his bachelor’s degree in Business Management. Following University in 2018 he found his passion was in financial planning and during the first 4 years of his time in the financial services sector he has successfully completed his CII Level 4 Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning along with his CII Level 3 Certificate in Mortgage Advice, this allows him to advise clients on a wide range of financial products.

Barwell joined PLFM in October 2022 and looks forward to working on their existing client bank, as well as introducing new clients to the business. Barwell lives in Wargrave with his partner Olivia and their Labrador, Chester. He enjoys all sports, particularly Football and Cricket. However, his main passion is skiing having spent time on the slopes in many European countries, as well as Canada and India!
